Jane Diehl

Beach Cities Health District

Jane Diehl's leadership at the Beach Cities Health District (BCHD) has ushered in an era of community well-being and youth engagement. Her innovative spirit helped bring allcove Beach Cities to the South Bay, a first-of-its-kind integrated youth mental health center in Southern California; and championed the South Bay Leadership and Wellness Conference.

 

Ms. Diehl’s commitment to youth well-being is exemplified by the success of the LiveWell Kids program, which has reduced childhood obesity rates by 75% in Redondo Beach schools. Her leadership was instrumental in securing grant funding, enabling BCHD to expand its reach and impact. This includes $10.8 million in grants for allcove Beach Cities and $1.7 million for the Diamond Street Bike and Pedestrian Path.

 

In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms. Diehl played a crucial role in BCHD's swift and effective response. This extraordinary effort earned BCHD the 2021 "Healthcare District of the Year" award. Ms. Diehl's vision and dedication has improved the health and well-being of the Beach Cities community and positioned BCHD as a national leader in preventive care and community engagement.

 

 

Michael Pacheco

Palomar Health

Palomar Health proudly nominates Michael Pacheco for the ACHD Trustee of the Year Award. As Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, Michael has demonstrated exceptional dedication to community wellness.

 

Mr. Pacheco’s involvement in the Palomar Paws pet therapy program, alongside his dog Jessie, has brought comfort and joy to countless patients, showcasing the healing power of animal-assisted therapy.

 

Mr. Pacheco’s commitment to healthcare accessibility is evident in his regular contributions to local newspapers, the Valley Roadrunner and Ramona Sentinel, where he demystifies complex healthcare topics and empowers over 10,000 residents with valuable knowledge and resources.

 

His leadership and advocacy have been instrumental in shaping Palomar Health's role as a cornerstone of community well-being, fostering a healthier and more resilient environment for all. Michael's compassion, innovation, and unwavering dedication to service make him a perfect candidate for this award.

 

Suzette Prue

John C. Fremont Healthcare District

Suzette Prue, John C. Fremont Healthcare District board member, has a long history of involvement in local healthcare. A dedicated Mariposa County resident since 1984, her journey began with the Fremont Foundation Board of Directors and co-founding their largest fundraiser, the Black and White Ball.

 

As a long-term Board of Directors leader and current Treasurer, Ms. Prue co-sponsored the Measure O Committee, working tirelessly to secure funding for a new hospital to meet upcoming seismic standards. This critical access hospital serves the community and region, including millions of visitors to Yosemite National Park.

 

Ms. Prue directly assisted with the USDA loan process, ensuring the financial stability of the district. Her unwavering dedication, historical knowledge, and leadership have been instrumental in providing long-term stability, and ensuring critical healthcare access for the community and visitors alike.

 

Carole Rogers

Desert Healthcare District and Foundation

For the past 10 years, Carole Rogers, Director for Desert Healthcare District and Foundation, has been a tireless advocate for the underserved. She has championed affordable housing, provided essential healthcare services to the unhoused and migrant worker populations, and been instrumental in improving mental health resources through behavioral health initiatives.

 

Ms. Rogers' impact is evident in her leadership roles on the Coachella Valley Association of Governments Homeless Committee and the Lift to Rise Housing Collaborative Action Network, where she secured funding and support for affordable housing projects. She actively volunteers her time, mentoring nursing students, and contributing to community programs like the CSUSB Nursing Street Medicine Program.

Ms. Rogers' 50 years of nursing experience and her deep understanding of the healthcare needs of the Coachella Valley have been invaluable in shaping the district's behavioral health services and programs. Ms. Rogers' passion, expertise, and dedication to the well-being of the Coachella Valley make her a true healthcare hero and an inspiration to all.

 

Bill Wickman

Plumas District Hospital

Bill Wickman is a dedicated trustee of the Plumas District Hospital, demonstrating dedication and leadership since 2014. Serving multiple terms as a board officer, Mr. Wickman's commitment to the community shines through his advocacy for residents' needs and voices.

A champion of progress, Mr. Wickman played a pivotal role in establishing a much-needed skilled nursing facility, addressing a long-standing gap in healthcare services. His perseverance has brought essential care closer to home for countless families.

Mr. Wickman's influence extends beyond the hospital district. As a board member of the Plumas Health Care Foundation since 2008, he has been instrumental in fundraising efforts, ensuring the financial stability of the district and supporting vital initiatives.

Mr. Wickman's guidance during challenging times has been invaluable. His approachable demeanor and unwavering commitment have earned him the respect and admiration of employees and community members alike. His legacy is one of dedication, leadership, and a commitment to those he serves.

 

Les Zendle, M.D.

Desert Healthcare District & Foundation

Les Zendle, M.D., has served on the Desert Healthcare District & Foundation board for 8 years, during which he has shown exceptional dedication to his community. He volunteers with Coachella Valley Volunteers in Medicine and serves on the governance board of Desert Regional Medical Center, where he represents the community's interests.

Dr. Zendle is known for his compassion, empathy, and caring nature, always prioritizing the needs of the community. He has been instrumental in assisting newly elected board members, ensuring a smooth transition into their roles.

Dr. Zendle's expertise and knowledge have been invaluable to the Board, particularly in addressing issues that impact the community. He consistently demonstrates a deep understanding of the community's needs and actively seeks solutions to benefit the diverse population served by the district. Dr. Zendle's contributions will be deeply missed, and his service is greatly appreciated.
