GENERAL SESSION

From Hype to Governance: Building AI Readiness for Accountable Community Health Leadership

Presented by Wipfli

Presenter: Kevin Hyde, Senior Manager, Wipfli Advisory LLC

Session Description: Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping how healthcare districts and public health organizations respond to the specialized health needs of their communities. Yet as organizations adopt AI at an accelerating pace, governance can struggle to keep up—creating new risks around data, ethics, accountability and community trust.

This session will provide healthcare district leaders with a practical framework for building organizational AI readiness while maintaining accountability to the communities they serve. Participants will explore essential components of responsible AI governance, including policy development, risk management, ethical oversight and workforce readiness, as well as emerging challenges such as shadow AI usage, vendor risk and regulatory uncertainty.

Attendees will leave with actionable strategies to assess their organization’s AI maturity, establish effective governance and oversight structures, and prepare their workforce to use AI responsibly. Learn how your district can move beyond the hype and ensure AI supports—not undermines—its mission to provide equitable, transparent and community-based health services.
