Assembly Bill 890: Nurse Practitioners: scope of practice: practice without standardized procedures.
The California Future Health Workforce Commission projected a shortage of 4,103 primary care clinicians by 2030. The report makes several recommendations, but in its top 10 priorities for addressing this shortage, was maximizing the role of nurse practitioners and physicians assistants to fill gaps in primary care. You can read the Commission's full report here.
AB 890, by Assemblymember Jim Wood, would grant full practice authority to nurse practitioners, allowing them to practice to the full extent of their education and training. This measure is essential to ensuring Districts can reach everyone who needs health care, especially in rural and undeserved areas of the state.
