The Mini Grants Program Intent to Award

The Mini Grants Program is proud to announce its Intent to Award for Request for Applications (RFA) 14-5404. A total of 46 applications are to be awarded this year at $603,706 and serving 16,555 participants throughout California.

Not only is this a record year for The Mini Grants Program, as of this year, all grant recipients will also include exposure to mental health careers and resources, stigma reduction, and suicide prevention as part of their funded program activities.Additionally, as of the 2014/15 program year, The Mini Grants Program has awarded $2.28 million to 179 programs to serve over 55,000 participants since its inception in 2005.

STATE LOAN REPAYMENT PROGRAM

Program Eligibility

Did you know that Registered Dental Hygienists, Certified Nurse Midwives, and Licensed Clinical Social Workers are eligible to apply for the State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP)? Song-Brown Funding Updates and Opportunities

The Request for Application (RFA) for the Primary Care Residency and New Slots ($4M) funding closed March 10, 2015. The California Healthcare Workforce Policy Commission (CHWPC) will hold a funding meeting April 28-29, 2015 from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM in Sacramento, California, to make funding recommendations for the 35 applications received.

Family Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants (FNP/PA) and Registered Nurse (RN) award letters are in the mail. If you are a FNP/PA or RN residency program that received reduced base and/or special programs funding, you can find instructions to modify your request through CalREACH on the Song-Brown webpage: https://www.oshpd.ca.gov/hwdd/song_brown_prog.html

Family Medicine awardee contracts are on their way. Please read, sign, and return contracts to Song-Brown by April 15, 2015 for Capitation and April 30, 2015 for Special Programs to avoid any delay in contract execution.

The California Healthcare Workforce Policy Commission (CHWPC) will hold its policy meeting May 20-21, 2015 in Sacramento, California. The CHWPC will discuss policy issues related to the Song-Brown Program.

HEALTH WORKFORCE PILOT PROJECT

HWPP Application #173

Sponsored by the Emergency Medical Services Authority, Health Workforce Pilot Project (HWPP)Application #173 continues to develop and move forward. This project proposes to determine whether paramedics working in an expanded role in their community can help improve health system integration, efficiency, and/or fill identified health care needs. Site visits begin March 2015 and will continue throughout the remainder of the year. WORKFORCE EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAM

Peer Personnel Training and Placement RFA

Workforce Education and Training program (WET) released the Peer Personnel Training and Placement Request for Application (RFA) February 27, 2015. The purpose of this RFA is to fund organizations to support, train and place individuals who are currently or seeking to be employed and/or volunteer as peer personnel by engaging in recruitment and outreach, career counseling, training, placement, and support activities with a priority focus on peer personnel placement in the Public Mental Health System.

HRSA Funding Opportunity Announcement

On March 16, 2015, the Health Resources and Service’s Administration’s (HRSA)Bureau of Health Workforce (BHW) release the 2015 Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) Funding Opportunity Announcement.The deadline to apply for this opportunity is May 15, 2015.

The purpose of HCOP is to increase the diversity of the health care workforce through the training of individuals from educationally or economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
