The Pittsburg Arts and Community Foundation ("PACF") has kicked off its new Books to Bikes program.
For the program, PACF will donate a mini-library of 10 books and a bike to 25 to 30 low-income children in the El Pueblo neighborhood. The program was made possible by a grant from the Los Medanos Community Healthcare District.
“We’re very excited and grateful for the opportunity to work with Los Medanos Community Healthcare District to help Pittsburg’s citizens again,” said Janis Glover, Program Manager for PACF. The children will only receive a bike after giving a brief oral or written report on one of the books they read. PACF hopes the bikes will act as an incentive to get the children reading.
