While the 2013-14 Legislative Session adjourned the morning of Saturday August 30, the Governor had until September 30 to take final action on legislation. In total, the Governor received 1074 bills, of which he signed 930, vetoed 143 and only one bill became law without his signature.
Here is a quick rundown on the Governor’s action on ACHD’s highest priority bills:
AB 1838 (Bonilla): Allows graduates of accelerated medical school programs accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools to seek and be granted a license to practice by the Medical Board of California.
Status: Signed by the Governor
AB 2198 (Levine): Requires various mental health professionals to complete suicide assessment, management or treatment training prior to license renewal, depending on the graduation date of the individual.
Status: Vetoed by the Governor. Read his veto message here.
AB 2616 (Skinner): Creates a presumption for specified hospital employees with Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) claims.
Status: Vetoed by the Governor. Read his veto message here.
SB 556 (Padilla): Prohibits contractors that perform specific “public health and safety” services for a public entity from displaying the logo of the public agency on a vehicle, uniform, or badge unless specific disclosure requirements are followed.
Status: Signed by the Governor
