ACHD is pleased to announce available grant opportunities that eligible Healthcare Districts can benefit from.
Davenport Institute
The Davenport Institute’s 6th Annual Public Engagement Grant Program provides cities, counties, special districts and civic organizations with $50,000 in support of consultants, facilitators and assistance with online engagement. Prior to beginning their public engagement campaign, grantees will receive training and consultation from the Davenport Institute to build understanding and support for their civic engagement efforts among administrative and elected officials. The grant will fund one or more professional consultants to work with grantees on facilitated public forums.

Health Professions Education Foundation
The Health Professions Education Foundation is currently accepting applications and will be awarding over $30 million in scholarships and loan repayments to health professional students and practitioners. To assist in the grant application process, OSHPD unveiled CalREACH – an electronic grant application – which will make it easier to apply for and receive grants. Song-Brown Workforce Training Program
The Song-Brown Workforce Training Program is accepting proposals from accredited Family Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, and Family Practice Residency Programs and will award more than $10.9 million. The Song-Brown Program was established in 1973 to increase the number of family physicians providing critical medical services to the people of California. The program:
- Encourages universities and primary care health professionals to provide healthcare in medically underserved areas, and
- Provides financial support to family practice residency, family nurse practitioner, physician assistant, and registered nurse education programs throughout California
Accredited training programs must submit applications on a periodic basis to continue to receive program funding. The Song-Brown Program currently funds 30 California Family Practice Residency Programs, 13 Physician Assistant/Family Nurse Practitioner Programs and 32 registered nurse education programs to improve access to healthcare services. California State Loan Repayment Program
The California State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP) is accepting applications from health practitioners. The SLRP was created in 1987 and is intended to:
- Increase the number of primary care physicians, dentists, dental hygienists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, and mental health providers practicing in defined Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs).
- Authorize repayment of educational loans to health professionals, who in turn must commit to practice in medically underserved areas in public or non-profit entities for a minimum of two years and maximum of four years.
The SLRP has $949,000 in funding available to repay outstanding government or commercial loans that were incurred during undergraduate or graduate education. The current application cycle ends on October 19, 2013. Click here for application details.
