A Day in the Life of… Curt Jones, CFO, ACHD/ALPHA Fund

Curt 7

How long have you been an employee of ACHD/ALPHA Fund?

I joined ACHD/ALPHA Fund on February 1, 2005.

What is your role at ACHD/ALPHA Fund?
I am the Chief Financial Officer.  My primary responsibility is Finance.   The Directors of HR, Underwriting and IT also report to me.   I’m accountable for the following:

  • Financial Reporting – Quarterly reporting, Annual Audits, payables (including claimants), and Investments.
  • HR – Oversees employee payroll, benefits, employee policy and procedures.
  • Underwriting – Oversees the billing, collections, and payroll audits of our membership.
  • IT – Oversees the development of the various software and hardware requirements.

How did you first get involved in your career?
I did not have a career counselor in college so I took various courses that I thought I would be interesting such as Forestry, Psychology, Sociology, and Art Appreciation.  After completing the required core courses, I enrolled in summer school so that I could better manage my fall and spring semesters.  The only available course due to my work schedule was Accounting 101.  As it turned out, I excelled in this class while others seemed to struggle.

What is the best part of your job?
The people that I work with and for.  There is a mutual respect of the job and the mission.

What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
Accounting is very time sensitive and deadline oriented.  Getting others to respond to the needs of the Accounting department in a timely fashion can be challenging.

What is your favorite hobby outside of work?
The golf course is always a good place to look for me outside the office.
