Adolescence can be an unsettling time in a young person's life, with many physical and social changes, and emotional and psychological stresses. National data indicates teens are experiencing higher stress levels than ever before and are experiencing stress at higher rates than adults. Many teens report being overwhelmed, depressed or sad as a result of this stress. With 70 percent of San Mateo County Youth Commission Needs Assessment respondents reporting being nervous, depressed, or emotionally stressed within the last month, teen mental health issues are a high priority need.
