ACHD’s 2014 Legislative Day was a great success! Those that attended participated in a day of educational sessions, a Legislative Reception, a hosted dinner, and Capitol visits. ACHD is happy to announce that this year’s event had an unprecedented 43 attendees representing 18 Districts in attendance. ACHD is pleased with such active participation from Member Districts.
Here are a few highlights of the event:
Attendees were engaged throughout three educational sessions. First Mark Baldassare, Public Policy Institute of California, introduced the attendees to an overview and history of the initiative process in California along with its attributes and pitfalls. Next, attendees heard from Lisa Maas, Californians Allied for Patient Protection, and Anne McLeod, California Hospital Association, who each spoke about looming ballot initiatives that may affect Healthcare Districts in November. After lunch ACHD staff explained the high priority legislation in this year’s legislative session and provided an overview of new member benefits found on achd.org and “My ACHD.” The sessions concluded with the unveiling of the new “ACHD Certified” program and a panel of Healthcare Districts discussing community relations and transparency in their Districts.
Legislative Day Reception:
Several Legislators enjoyed great conversation with their constituents during the reception in the Vines Café at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento. In attendance were Assemblymember Jim Patterson (R-Fresno) and Assemblymember Rocky Chavez (R-Oceanside).
Legislator of the Year:
The festivities continued in the Vines Café, where ACHD’s Advocacy Committee Chair, Jerry Kaufman, introduced the 2013 Legislator of the Year, Senator Jim Nielsen (R-Gerber). Taking the podium, the Senator received his award and then spoke about the importance of the services Healthcare Districts provide. Senator Nielsen continued by expressing his gratitude to all Healthcare Districts in our state.
