(October 20, 2016) The Association of California Healthcare Districts (ACHD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Julia Miller as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors. The appointment occurred during the Board’s Annual Retreat. Ms. Miller serves as Secretary/ Treasurer on the El Camino Healthcare District Board of Directors and has been a Member of the ACHD Board since May 2015. “I am honored to serve as Vice Chair for such an important organization during a time of many changes in today’s health care environment and as the Association helps to enhance best practices for California’s Healthcare Districts,” says Ms. Miller.
During the Board Retreat, Ms. Miller was a prominent supporter of a newly approved Board Strategic Plan to improve transparency, accountability and public engagement. “Julia will provide strong leadership and local government expertise to the Association’s Board as we venture through upcoming changes. We are happy to have her serving in this new capacity,” said Ken Cohen, ACHD’s Executive Director.
California Healthcare Districts respond to the specialized health needs of their communities. Voters created 79 Healthcare Districts to fulfill local health care needs. Of these, 54 serve the state’s rural areas. Healthcare Districts provide access to essential health services and are directly accountable at the community level. As a result, tens of millions of Californians have been able to access care that would otherwise be out of reach.
