Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday that falls on the third Monday of January every year. This is a day to reflect upon the life of Martin Luther King Jr. who not only paved the way for racial equality in our nation, but became one of the greatest non-violent leaders in the history of the world.

In addition, this is not a day off, but a day "on" for community service and volunteer work. Jan 19 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, when Americans come together to serve their neighbors and community. What is your healthcare district doing to serve its community and to encourage its employees to volunteer this year?

The Corporation for National & Community Service provides a great list of ideas you can use to brainstorm ideas for your district.

As MLK once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"
