February 27, 2015, marks the last day for Legislators to introduce bills, which signals the start of the next phase of the Legislative session: committee hearings. Bills must be in print for 30 days before they can be heard in a committee hearing. Once the bills are referred to a committee, the author must present and get their bills passed, while working within the set of Legislative deadlines outlined below.
The next set of deadlines is as follows:
|May 1||Last day for policy committees to meet and report to Fiscal Committees fiscal bills introduced in their house|
|May 15||Last day for policy committees to meet and report to the floor non-fiscal bills introduced in their house|
|May 22||Last day for policy committees to meet prior to June 2|
|May 29||Last day for fiscal committees to meet and report to the floor bills introduced in their house and for fiscal committees to meet prior to June 2|
|June 1-5||Floor Session only. No policy committees may meet for any purpose|
|June 5||Last day for each house to pass bills introduced in that house|
As you can see, March, April, May, and early June will be a very busy time for the Legislature, and for ACHD’s Legislative Team. Our time will be spent between policy and fiscal hearings, representing ACHD on various legislative bills, and advocating on your behalf. During this time, we may need your help sending letters or making calls to your legislators, so please be sure to check your email consistently for Legislative Alerts.
Furthermore, we hope that you will attend our Annual Legislative Day, as during this event, you will hear the Legislative Team present our most important bills in greater detail in Sacramento. Our Legislative Days are taking place on April 13-14, at the Hyatt Hotel in Sacramento. If you have not yet registered, you may do so here.
Please contact the Legislative Department if you have any questions.
