Legislature’s Final Days of Session

By midnight on Sunday, August 31, 2014, the Legislature is constitutionally required to finish all business and send legislation to the Governor for final consideration.  The Governor then has until September 30, 2014, to sign or veto the measures sent to him.

During the next 72 hours, the Advocacy Team will be busy lobbying the legislature on outstanding measures. These measures await consideration by the entire Senate or Assembly, and in some cases, will still require a committee hearing.

Outstanding measures still under consideration are:
AB 1310 (Bonta): Increases access to healthcare by providing a framework by which Medi-Cal providers licensed in California, but located outside of California, can provide telehealth services and receive reimbursement.

AB 1522 (Gonzalez): Requires employers, including cities, counties and special districts to provide one hour of paid sick leave for every thirty hours worked.

SB 556 (Padilla): Prohibits contractors that perform specific “public health and safety” services for a public entity from displaying the logo of the public agency on a vehicle, uniform, or badge unless specific disclosure requirements are followed.

In the next few weeks, the Advocacy Team will prepare a Legislator Report Card, detailing the vote record for all Legislators on legislation that ACHD had an active position on for 2014. Be sure to check your Legislator's vote record and let them know how well they represented Healthcare District issues this year.

Stay tuned for these Legislative Reports the first Monday in October.  Please update your District Trustees and Staff with the final reports.

As always, contact the Advocacy Team with any questions.
